The ache between your shoulder blades, a sweaty chest under a sealed jacket and a waistband that starts digging in before lunch are not small problems when the next servo is 200 kilometres away. An ergonomic baselayer for riders is built to remove those distractions. It manages the conditions inside your gear while moving with the posture you hold for hours on the bike.

Generic gym thermals are made for running, lifting or standing upright. Motorcycle riding is different. Your arms are forward, your back is curved, your neck is exposed to wind at every stop, and protective gear puts pressure on the same areas all day. Touring gear has a habit of multiplying. Spare gloves, wet-weather layers, tools, cables, chargers and a few days of clothes can fill panniers fast. A baselayer that handles more than one temperature range reduces the need to pack duplicates.
